The electricity that powers their cars aren’t as green as they think and if everyone changes to electric powered cars that may mean more power plants putting choking clouds of pollution into the air. • No, I just think the advancement of technology is going to kill car culture. I'm gonna get this comment out before I watch the video. The difference in car culture today vs yester-year is the same between being a mechanical engineer vs. an electrical engineer. Though they do the same things, get you from A to B, how they do it is quite different, and more complex. The change in tech will come with a change in the people who are inspired by that tech, and there surely are some people who love a roarin' V-8 that want nothing to do with futzing around with some computer controller or auto-steering sensors...

Brands need to do that type of marketing outside of social media, and make it less upfront now so it seems genuine, and doesnt seem like some marketing attempt to rally in a younger consumerbase.

  • In reference to your last sentence about giving a smile and a wave to a passing Tesla on the road, you might likely get the finger or at least a grimace. Seems like some people get a bit riled up when encountering a Tesla, especially if they're driving high-performance ICE vehicles because most Teslas can spank almost every performance car on the road. Just imagine a driver thinking that he's hot stuff in a C8 Corvette or some run-of-the-mill Hellcat at the stoplight. Badass, right? Then suddenly, an average-looking person pulls up next to you in a Model Y. The guy in the other vehicle suddenly realizes that, as quick and fast as his car is, he suddenly becomes a little intimidated by his electric foe. The light turns green and the Model Y leaves him standing. This would probably infuriate the other driver in his high HP road machine and decides to give chase to the Tesla. These kinds of scenarios are not that common but they happen. No self-respecting sports car person wants to be humiliated by an electric car that looks like a whale gave birth to it. So yes, there's Tesla fandom but there's a lot of Tesla rage too. Teslas are the new cool. Welcome to the future.

  • For me the problem with them is the elitism, I see soooooooooo many teslas driving like they own the road. Where I live, it's super common for a tesla to turn on it's turn signal then change lanes regardless of whether or not you make room for them. I also see teslas parked taking up 2 stalls more than any other vehicle, I started actually counting when my friend and I made a bet out of it like a year ago. About a month ago he conceded that teslas do park like assholes more often than the F-150 drivers he figured would win. We then totalled up our counts and the grand total was 18 teslas, 12 fords, 4 dodges, 3 chevs, and a toyota over 10 months in our city. Not the biggest sample, but I'm sure some statistics guru can tell me how confident our findings are. I will also give the toyota a pass, since it was a tundra towing a trailer and he did his best to take up the fewest spaces possible without blocking the parking lot. He had his truck ~60degrees so that his trailer wouldn't stick out the back of it's stall.

I have seen people dump 3000 dollars into their RC cars just upgrading them.

    richystar2001richystar200119 күн мурун
    • Problem then with cars is two fold. 1.) if the platform is really successful they can’t keep it. Otherwise have the literal blueprints to make their own knock-offs and boot them from the market. 2.) reputation. People don’t typically want a mix and match car, or car that doesn’t come complete. Also worth considering is people who modify their cars with cheap parts giving rise to a reputation of lack of reliability, or even worse, people modifying their vehicles in a way which is out right dangerous.

    • @Tanner Cox also ethanol fuel should be taken with a grain of salt. Whilst the end product is eco friendly the processing to get it is usually very emissions intensive because of all the energy required. Additionally it has to come from crops. With E10 fuels we have already seen a dramatic increase in the cost of corn alone for this industry. Land used for making fuel can’t also be used for making food. You’d cause a famine.

Engineering the weird guyEngineering the weird guy17 күн мурун
    • @Tanner Cox umm. Perhaps I’m reading it wrong but you don’t make power plants out of lithium. Lithium isn’t a fuel. You make batteries which store energy out of lithium. You’re right though in that they produce more emissions when they’re manufactured than ICE but you’re wrong about ICE being more efficient or eco friendly. EV’s are very efficient. Infact it’s more fuel efficient to charge your EV with a small cheap portable generator than it is to use that same fuel in a ICE car. The break even point from when EV’s are worse for the environment than ICE to better for the environment than ICE in terms of emissions is only around 15,000 miles. As for weight on concrete. That’s a bit of an exaggeration. The Model 3 for example weighs around 1,847 kg (4,072 lb). The Audi A6 which is also a luxury mid sized sedan just like the model is 1,845 (40,68 lb) which is a difference of 2kg. They’re not that much heavier than a normal car with similar features. Some other vehicles in that range have put a lot of effort into weight reduction, such as the BMW M3 which has a weight of 1,769 kg (3,900 lb) or a difference of 78kg. About the weight of one small person. Sorry but your comment about weight is grossly exaggerated

Engineering the weird guyEngineering the weird guy17 күн мурун
    • @Engineering the weird guy portray to world how it’s eco friendly but on the contrary it isn’t. It’s not even close to being as efficient as combustion engine. It’s takes an enormous amount of lithium to keep a steady power plant. Also the way most states produce energy it causes more pollution from the factory. If Tesla fans actually cared about the environment they’d push for nuclear energy, or methanol or even complete ethanol based fuel. There’s isn’t no tinkering with a Tesla either, you can’t add bolt ons or power adders. All you can do is strip weight or add another motor. Not to mention how awful Tesla’s are for concrete. The amount of weight they apply on the road while driving is a lot like a small semi.

      David ArundelDavid Arundel17 күн мурун
    • Well batteries these days in EV’s will last well over or up to 500,000 miles. In addition whilst the pack is apart of the frame, the batteries aren’t. Tesla batteries are made up of thousands of 18650 batteries (google why they look like). Replacing them is as easy as removing the seats then lifting up the floor to access the battery. Then just replace them one at a time or a batch at a time depending on what set up you have. This can cost currently as little as $5k with labour. But at the rate battery costs are reducing this will likely reach as little as $2k in the next 2-5 years according to experts.

    • @Joe Fekete p.s. I worked as heavy diesel mechanic to pay my way through University to become a Mechanical Engineer.

    • @Joe Fekete it is also more fuel efficient to charge your EV off a portable diesel generator than it would be to use that fuel in a Diesel engine, meaning that $110 a month would get you further with an EV. as for pulling capacity maybe try looking at the adverts for the electric F150 or the Cyber truck. Electric motors are known for their torque. Cranes don’t use Diesel engines, they use electric motors. Any mine in Australia has to meet the minimum requirements of the minors unions. Miners are paid better than almost any other profession in Australia. I can’t speak for Africa however the majority of lithium comes from Australia. Also the batteries are absolutely recyclable. A quick google search will clear that up for you. As for lifetime. Modern EV batteries are designed to last around 500,000 miles with no regular services required. No oil replacements, spark plugs, belts, fuel pumps, oil filters, injectors. Infact it’s not uncommon to find an older generation Tesla which he done over 400,000 miles or more. That’s because of modern battery management systems and the fact that EV’s only have a few hundred moving parts, Combustion cars have a few hundred thousand. There aren’t many parts because they aren’t needed.

  • Elon Musk is a terrible person, my family has worked with him and knows others who have and he’s a horrible person who treats his employees terribly, I hate how people worship that monster who try’s to win the public with memes and money, time to realize who y’all are following

  • If people think used bmers are expensive to maintain wait until they see what tesla service charges. Cost me 250 to get four tires mounted and balanced because nobody else would touch the thing

    • Really? My auto centre did mine on my model 3. They’re wheels, Tesla let’s tow truck drivers replace them on the side of the road. Not sure what you’re on about.

  • Probably, many people do not realize that most of that electricity they use to charge car batteries is made by burning same fossil fuel as is burning in traditional cars. So, it is reasonable to ask about gas mileage of electric cars. Now, in an old car there is just car engine between gas and mileage. In electric car we have power plant, transmission lines, car battery, and the motor in that chain of energy conversion from fuel calories to car motion. I would like to hear from the 'experts' about resulting gas mileage, but I bet that it is no better than half of that of a regular car.

    • For fuel there is refining from crude oil to petrol or diesel. If you think that’s at all efficient then you’re mistaken. Also combustion engines lose a lot of energy to auxiliary systems as they have to power them through belts and pulleys. Additionally the transmission also sucks away a lot of power. The resultant energy loss is huge only around 20-25% of the energy released is actually available to the wheels. Meanwhile generators don’t have those problems, and can be as much as 60% efficient. Infact it’s actually more fuel efficient to charge your EV from a cheap portable generator than it is to use that same fuel in even a highly efficient ICE car.

  • Seems you've just done more to fuel toxic haters than to try and moderate Stans or to distinguish from your average Tesla owner and/or fan... These comments seen below absolutely won't do ANYthing to further split the divide between types of enthusiasts /s. Could've done a lot better distinguishing the different reasons for owning one, but instead just made it seem like everyone who likes green tech or has a decent reason for owning one is just a fanboy. Videos like these probably make more Stans
